DTN News: Boeing Vigilare Enters Service With RAAF After Successful Multinational Air Combat Exercise

(NSI News Source Info) BRISBANE, Queensland,- September 8, 2010: Vigilare, the Boeing [NYSE: BA] Network Centric Command and Control System (NC3S) developed for the Commonwealth of Australia, has entered service with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) after excelling in a major multinational air combat exercise.
On Sept. 2, the RAAF began using the Vigilare Northern Regional Operations Centre (NROC) at RAAF Base Tindal, Northern Territory, for surveillance and battlespace management operations across Australia.

Indonesia - September 8, 2010: Russia will deliver two of its contracted Su fighter jets to Indonesia on Thursday, which is two days later comparing to the previously announced date, a source close to negotiations said.Russia's An-124 transport plane was to deliver two Su-27SKM planes to the air base in the city of Makassar in Indonesia's South Sulawesi province on Tuesday.
The source said that the delivery was postponed due to technical reasons but Russia would meet the earlier announced deadline and the last contracted Su-27SKM plane will be delivered to the same base on September 16.
Under a $300 million contract, signed in 2007, Russia is to complete the delivery of three Su-30MK2 and three Su-27SKM fighters to Jakarta by the end of 2010 in addition to two Su-27SK and two Su-30MK fighters purchased in 2003.
On the whole, Russia sends the planes to Indonesia earlier than scheduled following a request by the Indonesian military authorities, who would like the aircraft to take part in a military parade dedicated to Armed Forces Day on October 5.
Indonesia earlier said it needed at least one squadron equipped with 16 Sukhoi fighters to replace part of the outdated fleet of U.S. F-16 fighters.

DTN News: Pakistan TODAY September 7, 2010 - Suicide Car Bomber Kills 19 In Northwest Pakistan

(NSI News Source Info) PESHAWAR, Pakistan - September 7, 2010: At least 19 people were killed and 45 wounded when a suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden car into a police station in northwest Pakistan on Monday, destroying the building, police said.
Nine policemen and four schoolchildren were among those killed by the attack in Lakki Marwat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, not far from tribal areas that are a stronghold of the Taliban.At least 110 people have been killed over the past week as militants step up their attacks across the country.

DTN News: Pakistan TODAY September 4, 2010 - Toll From Quetta Blast Rises To 65

(NSI News Source Info) QUETTA, Pakistan - September 4, 2010: The death toll from a suicide attack on a Shia Muslim procession rose from 56 to 65 overnight as critically wounded people died in hospital, police said.
Police official Mohammed Sultan said Saturday that about 150 people were wounded and some remain critical after the attack claimed by the Pakistani Taliban in the southwestern city of Quetta. A triple suicide attack Wednesday night killed 35 people at a Shia procession in Lahore.
Leaders of the minority sect called a general strike in Quetta and all schools are closed for a day in mourning, police said.
Pakistan's government is struggling to deal both with massive flooding and the incessant militant violence aimed at overthrowing the administration.

(NSI News Source Info) WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M., - September 2, 2010: Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) and The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA) completed the second of three government-sponsored firings of the Joint Air-to-Ground Missile. The JAGM used its imaging infrared (IIR) guidance system to hit an armored vehicle target at 4 kilometers (2.5 statute miles).
The Raytheon-Boeing JAGM features a fully integrated tri-mode seeker that incorporates semiactive laser, uncooled imaging infrared and millimeter wave guidance. The weapon leverages proven components from other Raytheon and Boeing programs, such as the Raytheon GBU-53/B Small Diameter Bomb II and the Boeing Brimstone.

DTN News: General Dynamics Awarded $10 Million By U.S. Navy To Produce F/A-18 Gun Systems

(NSI News Source Info) CHARLOTTE, N.C. - September 2, 2010: The U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division in Patuxent River, Md., in May awarded General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products a $9.8 million contract to produce the M61A2 20mm Gatling gun system for the F/A-18E/F aircraft. General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products is a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
Production work will be performed at General Dynamics’ facility in Saco, Maine, and the program will be managed at General Dynamics’ Burlington Technology Center in Vermont. Work is expected to be completed in September 2012.
The M61A2 20mm Gatling gun system is mounted in the nose of the aircraft and can fire a rate of 4,000 or 6,000 shots per minute.

DTN News: Boeing Receives AC-130U Gunship Support Contract

(NSI News Source Info) FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla., - September 2, 2010: Boeing [NYSE: BA] today announced that it has received a contract from the U.S. Air Force to provide spare servo-actuators for the AC-130U gunship. The five-year contract, which includes a base year plus four out-year ordering periods, is worth up to $7.2 million. A total of $1.2 million of the first phase has been obligated.
Between now and July 2011, Boeing will provide 10 servo-actuators for the Trainable Gun Mount Systems needed to install 40-millimeter guns on four AC-130Us. The contract was issued by Robins Air Force Base, Warner Robins, Ga., to Boeing’s Special Operations Forces subdivision. The work will be performed by Boeing teams in Fort Walton Beach.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - September 1, 2010: North Korean-made truck-mounted multiple launch rocket systems have been reportedly set up at Burmese army bases in northern, eastern and central Burma, according to military sources.
The North Korean rockets were recently delivered to missile operation commands in Mohnyin in Kachin State, Naungcho and Kengtung in Shan State and Kyaukpadaung in Mandalay Division, sources said. Missile operation commands were reportedly formed in 2009.

With a scope of MNOK 270, the contract applies to the delivery of composite and titanium components for the aircraft's rudders. The contract is for deliveries to 62 aircrafts.
The contract will be signed during a press conference held in “Teatersalen” at Hotel Continental, Tuesday 31 August at 1 PM.
Representatives from the Norwegian authorities will be present during the ceremony.
